Fable Collection Dollhouse Plans
These DIY dollhouse plans were designed to fit the modified crochet Fable Collection animals perfectly. This post includes all of the modification details, plus FREE printable bunting for a pop of color in your new little dollhouse!
The Fable Collection Dollhouse is actually a modification of the Mabel Chicken Market Coop – both use the same base plans. You can find the free base plans for this house in my Mabel Chicken Market Coop blog post. If you prefer a fully formatted and ad-free PDF which includes both designs with extra printable pages and photos, you can grab your copy HERE or on Etsy.

How to Modify the Mabel Chicken Market Coop
With a few simple modifications, the Mabel Chicken Coop can be transformed into the perfect home for your Fable Collection animals!
1: Add a dividing wall
This optional 8″x5″ wall makes more living space inside the Fable Dollhouse. This wall extends to the ceiling, but is placed flush with the back of the house to create a passageway at the front. The wall was placed on the second story, with 12″ on the largest side.
2: Add a backing
The backing was cut from a 24″ x 24″ sheet of 1/4″ plywood. It’s recommended to lay the house on the sheet and trace the outline with the pencil. This will allow for any minor warping or misalignment that can happen during assembly.
Glue and clamp the backing to the back of the house, add nails around the perimeter of the house. *Optional: glue and nail some scrap stripping along the top edge of the roof, tucked under the lip, to secure the backing at the top.
3: Roof style
The Mabel Chicken Market Coop has a faux tin roof detailing. Although this would also be beautiful for the Fable Dollhouse, I chose to go with a clean look.
4: Paint colors
I went with a simple color palette, but there is so much room for versatility here! You can even paint or wallpaper the house backing a bold color for a splash of character. I used small tester pots from Benjamin Moore – they were great to work with. Don’t forget to prime first!
Fable Collection Dollhouse-Sized Animals
If you’re not familiar with the animals in the Fable Collection series, they are the sweetest series of crochet patterns with a classic heirloom look yet a modern feel and a perfect fit for little hands. All of the animals have interchangeable clothing and accessories. Their versatility makes them perfect for this adorable dollhouse mod! You can see the collection HERE.
Pattern Mod
Getting the proportions right for these dollhouse-sized Fable friends took some experimenting with different hooks and small adjustments to the original pattern. It was important that I maintained their signature Fable Collection look while making them the proper dollhouse scale. After some trial and error, I landed on a perfect mod that fits just right into the Fable Collection Dollhouse!
I chose to make the Brie Mouse (wearing the Beth Bunny overalls), and the Beth Bunny (wearing the Jolene Kitty Dress).
Remember – this mod can be applied to any of the Fable Collection patterns which can all be found in my shop!
1: Swap out the recommended blanket yarn for worsted weight (I used my favourite – Lion Brand Color Theory). I used the following colors in these photos:
- Beth Bunny (wearing Jolene Kitty’s dress) – Warm Cream, Provence and Dijon.
- Brie Mouse (wearing Beth Bunny’s overalls) – Moonbeam and Stonewash.
2: I used a 3.5mm Clover crochet hook.
3: Shorten the legs to 10 total rounds and the arms to 5 total rounds.
4: For embroidered details, use embroidery floss for the eyes, nose, and mouth. The Jolene Kitty dress (shown on Beth Bunny) was shortened by two rounds.
If you prefer not to modify the arm and leg lengths, the unmodified mouse on the left is about 6.5″ tall, while the modified version on the right is around 5″. You can see the difference between them (shown on the dollhouse bed for scale):
Dollhouse Furniture
After searching for the perfect dollhouse furniture for this little house, I landed on this adorable Wooden Dollhouse Furniture Set. This set is a great fit for the house, and is made with a mix of wood and plastic parts. I only used about half of the items from the set – but it came with lots of little extras!
Free Printable Bunting for Decorating
What’s a dollhouse without a little decor? I’ve made a free printable bunting that you can print, cut, and hang on your house. It’s a quick and easy way to make their new space feel festive and lived in!

Hello! In your side by side of the 6.5” and 5” mouse it also looks like the body is shorter. Did you modify the length of the body at all?
Hi Jessica, I agree – the body does look a little shorter! I think it’s due to the slightly larger (3.75mm) hook for the 6.5″ mouse. 🙂
