Finn Bear Chicken Mod
Finn Bear has a brand-new look, and it’s one you won’t want to miss! If you’ve already fallen in love with the Bee Outfit that comes with the Finn Bear crochet pattern, you’re going to adore this little modification. This Mod transforms Finn Bear into the cutest little chicken, complete with a slip-on outfit that ties at the back—making it easy to switch between styles for endless play.
Whether your Finn Bear is buzzing like a bee or clucking like a chicken, this mod is a simple and fun way to add even more versatility to your Fable Collection animals.
The Finn Bear pattern can be found HERE, or in my Etsy shop HERE.

If you aren’t familiar with the animals in the Fable Collection, they are the sweetest series of crochet patterns with a classic heirloom look, yet modern feel and a perfect fit for little hands. All of the animals have interchangeable clothing and accessories.

INSTRUCTIONS:
CHICKEN BODY:
Work your way through the Bee Costume from the Finn Bear pattern (find it HERE). Omit color changes and wings.
Stop before starting round 5 of the bee body to start the tail. Make sure the 1st st for round 5 will be in the center of the body (aligned with the bottom of the opening at the back). You may have to add or remove a st here.
Round 5: Ch 1, into the 1st st, work 1 hdc, 2 dc, 1 hdc. Then continue – sc, dec, (2 sc, dec) x 5 (21)
Once back to the stitch marker, work into the 4 sts of the tail – 1 hdc, dc inc, dc inc, 1 hdc, then 1 sc, sl st.
FO and weave in end. Complete the sl sts along the outside edge of the “V” shaped opening at the back as per pattern instructions.
Check out that cute little chicken tail!
CHICKEN HAT:
Complete hat as per Finn Bear pattern, omitting antennae.
COMB:
1: With a slip knot on your hook in comb color, insert hook into the top of the hat, two stitches back from the ear holes.
2: YO to complete a sc, then into the same st, work a hdc, then a sl st, ch 1.
3: Into the next st toward the ear holes, work hdc, 2 dc, sl st.
4: Cut yarn and use yarn needle to work ends into the underside of the hat, knot and weave in tails.
BEAK:
1: Locate the middle three sts at the upper front edge of the hat, using the ear holes as a guide. With a slip knot st on your hook in beak color, insert your hook to the 1st of the three sts and YO to complete one sl st.
2: Work a dc inc into the 2nd st, then a sl st into the 3rd st.
3: FO, and weave ends into the underside of the beak.
Your little Finn Bear Chicken Mod is finished!
I hope this little chicken mod brings to as much joy as it has for me. Don’t forget that this little outfit will fit all of the animals from the Fable Collection. And keep an eye out for more costume mods to come!
Enjoy and happy making!
