Fable Collection Face Mod

This post includes instructions for modifying your Fable Collection crochet animals to have the cutest little face! This modification was intended for the Tilly Cat Fable pattern – but will also work well for other animals in the series.

Tilly Cat is the latest friend to join the Fable Collection. Tilly comes with three different color options as well as an adorable shawl! Both Tilly Cat and Marley Dog come with the Bedtime Bundle pattern – which includes a robe and eye mask.

This face mod uses bobble stitches to add extra shape around the nose and mouth (plus larger 14mm eyes in this case) – you can see the difference between the original (left) and the modified version (right) on Tilly Cat here:

SUPPLIES:

Tilly Cat crochet pattern
Size 6 super bulky weight yarn
Optional: I increased to 14mm safety eyes for this mod.
7 mm crochet hook
Scissors

COLORS USED IN PHOTOS:

Bernat Blanket yarn in the colors Mist-ical Canyon and Spice is Nice.

SPECIAL STITCHES:

3xbb (3x bobble stitch): (YO, insert hook into st, draw up a loop, YO, draw through first 2 loops on hook) x3 for 4 total loops on hook, YO, draw through all 4 loops to complete.

INSTRUCTIONS:

Before starting round 4, mark the center 3 stitches on the face on the round.

Round 4: sc around, working the following into 3 marked sts- 3x bb, 1 sl st, 3x bb.

Continue with the pattern as written, including eye shaping.

NOTE:

Nose will be embroidered at the top of the sl st between the bobbles.
Exclude mouth shaping steps.

And that’s it! Look at that kissable little kitty face!
