Carrot Sleeping Bag Crochet Pattern

Nothing says spring like carrots and bunnies! This carrot-shaped sleeping bag is designed especially for your baby Fable bunnies and other friends too! It’s the perfect accessory to encourage play, with the option to add a strap to make the sweetest little satchel for carrying around a tiny Fable friend!

This Carrot Sleeping Bag was designed for the Beth Bunny and Prim Bunny Baby Fable crochet patterns. They’re the perfect make for spring and Easter markets and baskets! You can find the whole collection of the Baby Fable animal patterns in my shop!

SUPPLIES:

NOTES:

  • This pattern is worked in both rounds and rows.
  • It is recommended to use the same size hook, brand of yarn, and crochet method for both your Fable Baby animal and sleeping bag. This will ensure a snug fit and consistent look.

ABBREVIATIONS:

(US Crochet Terms)

ch – chain

dec – invisible decrease

FO – fasten off

inc – 2 sts in same st

mc – magic circle

sc – single crochet

sl st – slip stitch

st(s) – stitch(es)

YO – yarn over

SPECIAL STITCHES:

dec (invisible decrease)

Insert hook into front loops of the next two sts, YO and draw through first two loops, YO and draw through remaining two loops.

MAIN PIECE

The main piece is worked in rounds.

Round 1: 6 sc in mc (6)

Round 2: sc around (6)

Round 3: (1 sc, inc) x 3 (9)

Round 4: (2 sc, inc) x 3 (12)

Round 5: (3 sc, inc) x 3 (15)

Round 6: (4 sc, inc) x 3 (18)

Round 7: (5 sc, inc) x 3 (21)

Round 8: (6 sc, inc) x 3 (24)

Rounds 9-16: sc around (24) (8 rounds/192 sts) *Ch 1, turn to start working in rows.

*Check the fit before continuing. The carrot top should sit near the arms when your Fable Baby is tucked inside. Add additional rows if needed.

PILLOW

The pillow is worked in rows.

Rows 1-5: 10 sc across, ch 1, turn (10) (5 rows)

Row 6: (sc, dec) x 3, 1 sc, ch 1, turn (7)

Row 7: sc across, ch 1, turn (7)

Row 8: (sc, dec) x 2, 1 sc, ch 1, turn (5)

Row 9: dec, 1 sc, dec, ch 1, turn (3)

FINISHING THE EDGES

1: After turning your work at the end of row 9, start crocheting around the pillow. Work 3 sc along the top of the pillow, then 9 sc down the sides of rows 9-1.

2: 14 sc along the front edge.

3: 8 sc up the sides of rows 1-8. Sl st into 1st st across the top of the pillow, FO, weave in ends.

OPTIONAL: Mark 3 sts along the top of the pillow for the carrot top.

CARROT TOP

Three leaves will be worked into the 3 sts along the top edge of the pillow.

1: With the sleeping bag opening facing you, and a slipknot on your hook, insert into the top right st on row 9, YO and pull through to complete a sl st.

2: Ch 4, starting in the 2nd ch from your hook, sc inc, 2 sl sts, then sl st into the next st to start the next leaf, repeat for next 2 leaves. After the 3rd leaf is completed, sl st back into the base of the pillow.

FO, weave in ends.

OPTIONAL STRAP

Finished strap is considered a toddler/small child’s length, measuring approx. 32″.

Leaving a 4″ tail, ch 80 with new working yarn.

ATTACHING STRAP

1: Using a yarn needle, thread one end of the strap through the front edge sts, inserting the needle from inside to outside 2 sts from the pillow.

2: Pull about 8″ of the chain through to allow some slack. With the yarn tail still on your needle, weave the yarn back through the last four chains of the strap.

3: Tie a knot in the chain and trim the tail.

4: Repeat for second tie.
