Fable Neckerchief Crochet Pattern

This FREE neckerchief crochet pattern is the perfect extra detail to customize your Fable Collection makes. It’s designed to fit both the original and baby Fable animals – adding a pop of color and character. They’re so quick and easy to make, you’ll want to crochet them in every color!

About the Fable Collection Animals

The Fable Collection is a line of crochet animal patterns to inspire imaginative play. With interchangeable outfits, color changes, and accessories, each one can be customized however you like.

NOTES:

  • This neckerchief pattern is worked in rows.
  • Turning chains count as a stitch.
  • It’s recommended to use yarn over/yarn over (YO/YO) method.
  • You can use a different weight of yarn for this pattern, adjusting to the appropriate hook size; however the size of the finished product will be different.

ABBREVIATIONS:

ch – chain

dc – double crochet

FO – fasten off

hdc – half double crochet

sc – single crochet

st(s) – stitch(es)

YO – yarn over

SPECIAL TECHNIQUES:

Working into the space between sets of hdc stitches: To work into a space, insert your hook into the open space between the two sets of hdc stitches. You should be working between the stitches themselves, rather than through the top loops.

MAIN PIECE

Use YO/YO method

Row 1: Ch 3, 2 hdc in the 3rd ch from the hook, ch 3, turn (3)

Row 2: 2 hdc in same st, 3 hdc in the space made by the turning ch 3 from the previous row, ch 3, turn (6)

Row 3: 2 hdc in same st, 3 hdc in the space between the sets of hdc sts in the row below, 3 hdc in the space made by the turning ch 3 from the previous row, ch 3, turn (9)

Row 4: 2 hdc in same st, 3 hdc in the first space, 3 hdc in the next space, 3 hdc in the space made by the turning ch 3 from the previous row, ch 1 (12)

Do not cut yarn, continue to next step.

FINISHING THE EDGES

Rotate work sideways to work into the edge of the rows (through single strands) 6 sc, (into starting chain at the bottom corner – hdc, dc, hdc), 6 sc up the other side.

Fasten off and weave in ends.

ADDING TIES

Leaving a 4″ tail, ch 25

With ch still on your hook, work 12 sc sts along row 4 of the neckerchief. Once you’ve reached the other side, ch 25 for second tie.

FINISHING TIES

1: Pull yarn tightly to secure at the end of the chain and weave the yarn back through the last four chains.

2: Tie a knot in the chain and trim the tail.

3: Repeat for second tie.
