While designing Maisy Duck, I decided to try the ever-popular Lion Brand Feels Like Bliss Yarn. I whipped up a little yellow Maisy and set her on the edge of my laptop while I made some notes. She was so tiny, she fit perfectly on the corner. When I glanced down at my keyboard and saw that little pouty face looking up at me so earnestly, I just about melted.

YARN

I used Lion Brand Feels Like Bliss yarn – if you haven’t used this yarn, you’re in for a treat! It’s soft, silky, and has a bit of stretch, which makes it perfect for these little duckies. For a classic look, I chose Buttercup and Peach, but the whole color line coordinates beautifully, so any combination would look lovely.

HOOK

Although this yarn is considered a level 5 bulky, and suggests using a 9mm hook, I went with a 5mm Clover crochet hook to keep snug stitches and it worked perfectly!

EYES

I used 8mm safety eyes for my little crochet Desk Duck.

ADDING WEIGHT

This step is optional, but it really gives your little ducky a nice weight and feel! Start by cutting the toe from a nylon stocking and tuck it inside the body before whipstitching it closed.

Next, fill the stocking with poly pellets. Tap the body gently on a hard surface to help the pellets settle, and refill a couple of times to get as many in as possible. Then, tie the stocking in a knot to secure the filling. Trim excess stocking with scissors.

Once you’ve finished round 1 of the head, stuff a bit of regular poly-fill into the tail and top of the body to shape it. Then, continue following the pattern as written to the end.

Look at that little face! She’s tiny but mighty, sitting only about 3.5″ tall!
