Mama Mabel Nest Crochet Pattern

It’s finally here! Mama Mabel now has a big, cozy nest to call home. The original Mabel Nest (can be found HERE), has been such a popular make, and I have been itching to design a larger one for the Mama and her babies!

This Mama Nest pairs perfectly with the Mama Mabel Mod (available HERE). This modification includes a free pattern for the crochet eggs and step-by-step instructions to create a pocket at the base of the Mama body so they can be tucked inside for safe keeping!

You can pick up an inexpensive, and beautifully formatted version of the Mama Mabel Nest pattern HERE, or in my Etsy shop. You can pick up your copy of the Mama and Mini pattern HERE.

SUPPLIES:

Mama Mabel crochet pattern – you can pick yours up HERE or in my Etsy shop.

NOTES:

  • Use a stitch marker at the start of each round for placement.
  • This pattern is worked in continuous rounds. Do not join rounds or turn your work.
  • I recommend matching the brand/weight of yarn used for the nest to your Mama Mabel Chicken. This will ensure a snug fit and a more consistent look.
  • You can use a different weight of yarn for this pattern, adjusting to the appropriate hook size, but the size of the finished product will be different.
  • Increase stitch (inc) – 2 sc in the same st

ABBREVIATIONS:

mc – magic circle

st(s) – stitch(es)

sc – single crochet

sl st – slip stitch

inc – 2 sc in the same st

dc – double crochet

FO – fasten off

BLO – back loop only

NEST INSTRUCTIONS:

Round 1: 8 sc in mc (8)

Round 2: inc around (16)

Round 3: (1 sc, inc) x 8 (24)

Round 4: (2 sc, inc) x 8 (32)

Round 5: (3 sc, inc) x 8 (40)

Round 6: (4 sc, inc) x 8 (48)

Round 7: (5 sc, inc) x 8 (56)

Round 8: BLO around (56)

Rounds 9-11: sc around (56) (3 rounds)

Round 12: (dc, sl st) x 26 (56)

Cut yarn, and pull through, leaving an 8” tail for the INVISIBLE FINISH step.

INVISIBLE FINISH:

After completing the final round, the optional ‘invisible finish’ (sometimes called invisible fasten off) step creates a seamless transition between the last and first stitches.

1: With a yarn needle, bring finishing tail through top loops of the second st of the final round, from front to back.

2: Bring tail through back loop only of the last st from the final round, from front to back.

3: Pull gently until tail forms a new set of “top loops”. FO and weave in ends.

Your Mama Mabel Nest is complete!

This big Mama nest holds lots of eggs and Mini Mabels (which are included in the Mama and Mini Mabel pattern). Look how cozy there are snuggled in there together!
